3SSR does not have a huge team of 20 something’s being paid and trying to become the next huge broadcast star. Instead we have a small team of volunteer student committee members and over 300 student volunteers that make this project go around.
Our radio presenters, all 150+ of them do it for nothing. Our TV presenters, all 20+ of them do it for nothing. The general managers, the treasurers, the administrators, they all do it for nothing. They give up their time and quite often their own money to bring you 3SSR 24/7 365 days a year. We also have close to 50 office volunteers that help with everything from receptionist duties, maintaining the CD library, podcasting of stories and editing radio pieces.
We don’t care what you are in to, we want you to bring your own interests and style to the station – if you find it interesting then there are sure to be others out there who do too. Whether you want to present a radio/tv show, write for our magazine or simply just help out around the office, we welcome you with full expertise and training involved! As long as you are a student at Swinburne (Undergrad or Postgrad) and you are above the age of 18 then this is your chance to get involved with a very friendly and diverse media project.
3SSR Radio has been around for more than 40 years and has continued to grow in capacity and diversity. Our station welcomes any Swinburne student that is keen on producing or presenting a radio show, no matter what they’re studying. We have all the expensive equipment, training and resources to make your radio show come reality, and we offer full help and support along the way.
All new presenters are required to undertake 3SSR’s short training course. The course offers students an introduction to the world of 3SSR, how we are run and how the studio operates. We also dive in to radio legalities and how to structure a radio show.
You will gain extensive knowledge from our courses including…
- How to produce and present a fluent radio show.
- Gaining an audience in the digital world.
- Broadcast Law (the boring stuff).
- Overview of studio equipment and software (in studio training is given during the course).
- 3SSR Code of Conduct.
If you are after a general volunteer role (non-presenting), we are seeking…
- Music Volunteers (Finding & adding music to our radio automation)
- Event Volunteers (General duties for our events, provisional or full car license needed)
- Show Assistants (Helping presenters run and produce a show who require special assistance)
We require all radio presenters and station volunteers to be 3SSR paid members. The payment goes towards training, support, equipment and social events for all members.
If you are interested in getting involved, we have two radio schedules per year for each semester. You are more than welcome to submit a show proposal at any time but we only offer training courses once per semester (usually at the start). Show proposal forms are available from our O’Week stalls at the beginning of each semester, from the 3SSR main reception within the SR Building (3SSR Corner) or online.
Please be aware that we cannot guarantee show times that you request due to large demand. When submitting for a new show, check our existing schedule on our website to see if your show times have already been filled.
3SSR TV started in 2014 on Channel 31, Melbourne’s digital community TV station. We also upload all episodes online via our YouTube channel. Our TV show welcome any Swinburne student to apply for a segment no matter what they study. Our TV studio is located within the BA Building at Swinburne University and filming regularly occurs weekly for our TV Spot on C31.
Due to a large demand in TV applications we unfortunately cannot approve all segments due to time restrictions but we welcome all to submit applications for new segments at the beginning of each semester. If your application is not accepted, we still invite you to volunteer in other roles to help keep our show on the air!
We are seeking roles this year for…
- Editing & Production (Assist in editing and producing shows after filming)
- Lighting & Film Assistants (General duties whilst filming)
