We’re seeking some energetic, music-obsessed individuals looking to gain experience in a variety of roles (not just within media!). Our station thrives off volunteers from all over Swinburne to help us push the station forward, and keep things running in top-top shape.
All volunteer roles qualify for volunteer hours through the SSAA’s SLVP points program and any volunteer hours through Swinburne associate programs. You will also gain exclusive access to our volunteer areas and any events held throughout the year.
If you can see yourself strutting your fine self in a role listed below, be sure to apply!
We receive thousands of copies of music (both physically and digitally) each year. Unfortunately we cannot listen to it all (and trust me, there’s some amazing music you receive!). We require some music advisors to help us sort through the music we receive each week. You will report to the station manager directly with any new music that need to be uploaded to the database for airplay each week. You will also be responsible for meeting with other music advisors to pick out tracks and albums to feature each week on our website and on air.
Do you have a face for radio? Errr… i mean a voice for radio? We are seeking some amazing voice actors with quality vocals for upcoming promotional ads we produce. If you’re not ready to present a radio show or just want to help out vocally, this is a great way to get yourself heard on the airwaves! Don’t think your voice is up for the challenge? Don’t stress, we welcome all voices big and small! You will be required on a casual basis to record your voice within our studios. All equipment, scripts and assistance is provided.
Got an IT background? A whizz at computer hax? We require a technical manager to ensure things are running AOK within the 3SSR studios and office area. You will work closely with the station manager and be on call if any assistance is required when the studio goes bust. Don’t stress though, we have plenty of redundancy and backups to ensure that if anything goes wrong, it will fix itself 99.9% of the time. We will provide you with all the necessary training needed to operate our systems and configure the software we use (Jazzler radio automation, BUTT, audio processor M-Audio interfaces and enough cabling to wrap around Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus 3 times.
We require a programming manager to assist our team with the influx of radio show applications we get each semester. Your responsibility will be to process the new shows and liaise with any new show applicants to ensure they are informed of their timeslots. You will also be required to conduct training with presenters, showing them the equipment and teaching them the art of kung-fu (a.k.a broadcast law). You will also be required to handle any interview requests for guests on air (this could include celebrities, musicians/bands and Jocelyn our club president). There are many perks with this role including the potential for free tickets to shows, events and concerts based on the workflow.
If you are interested in any of these positions, please send your resume and a short summary (1-2 paragraphs) of why you would suit the role, to firstname.lastname@example.org (with the role title in the subject line).
Please note that due to high application demand in some roles, we may reply to you with a small delay. (Sorry!)
We hope to work with you soon!
