Hey, my name is Michael and I’m in my third year of a media degree, co-majoring in cultural studies. I like Earl Grey tea, chess, the Geelong Football Club, continental philosophy and drinking beer.
How did you get involved with 3SSR and what do you like about us?
To start with the second question, I’d encourage everyone to get involved if only on the basis that 3ssr throws the best piss ups around campus.
Personally, I’ve been involved with 3ssr for just over a year. I started my show around April last year and continue to thoroughly enjoy doing it. I’m also very proud to say that following a radio meeting last week I have been self-appointed to the positions of 3ssr’s inaugural cultural attaché to the Eastern suburbs, head etiquette and grooming consultant and go-to button man. Moreover, I’ve been busy working the shredders as caretaker archivist following Tony Abbott’s announcement that the Royal Commission into union corruption will broaden its terms of reference to include recent allegations of racketeering, extortion and insider trading within my department.
I’d like to take this opportunity to state publicly that these allegations are
completely baseless and the result of a spurious and vindictive campaign by those jealous of the successes of the cufflinks for the dole and milk bar protection community outreach initiative. I would also like to take this opportunity to plug the new 3ssr radio app for iPhone and Android – get it, it’s free! – and to invite you to invest in my department’s new auxiliary ‘app premium’ program. For only a one off $50 payment you will receive not only the 3ssr app, but also an exclusive license to sign on your friends to our premium program. For everyone you sign up, you will receive a 10% commission of their joining fee. The more you sign up, the more we all prosper!
What’s your show about? When can we hear it?
My show is called Chemical Fever and it airs on 3ssr on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9PM. It takes its name from the title of an EP by Emika. It is just two hours of music I like, basically. To be more specific, as 3ssr is played through the George building, often not too long after my show starts the building begins to empty. I can only assume this is because people have rushed home to tell their friends.
What interests you about radio and presenting a program?
I don’t know exactly, as even after a year talking on the radio still scares me shitless on a regular basis. I guess I just like having this little 2 hour space every week that I have complete creative control over. 3ssr is great in allowing me that.
What 5 songs are you currently listening to?
I couldn’t keep it to 5, so went with 7:
